Where am I coming from? Well, my mother said that I weighed 10 pounds and had blond hair at birth. Understand that most of the family was prone to exaggeration. I was born in my grandfather Xavier’s house and spent my early days just across the road from there. 100 yards to the south there was a beautiful lake surrounded on three sides by mountains or hills.
I write in this blog to share my recollections of my growing-up days. The Adirondack Mountain area was mostly rural during the 30’s and 40’s. There were some mines, but most people owned small dairy farms or cut pulpwood. In many ways they were self-sufficient. One could make a comparison with Appalachia. Some folks played musical instruments, and we all loved to square dance. I even attended a box lunch social. Maybe it is time to revive that tradition. At any rate I liked growing up there with my friends and family.
